The State of AI and how to Start Combatting it!

Posted by PSYCHDLSH - May 26th, 2025

Hi folks, hope you all are doing well. It’s been a good year for me attending an art college, though one thing has stuck out to me. The use and existence of AI. I know I know; touchy subject as artists that wish it didn’t exist. Whether we like it or not, it sets the bar higher and should motivate us to try something crazy and different. I’m sure you’ve heard this before but that’s not what I'm here to talk about.

I’m sure some of you are aware that Discord recently added a AI bot to their platform which might not be a super big deal for those using it as a form of communication. But for the art communities with possibly 100,000 or more members who are unaware of the art scraping that goes on to train the AI, it’s not a good look. For me, I go in and pay for nitro for bigger file sizes so I can do commissions as I use discord as my main source of commissions. It’s frustrating and makes me not want to use the platform despite its many pros.

Besides the point, I’d like you all to try something to begin to poison ai bots. Some of you maybe using it already or not since Newgrounds is the biggest website I trust that would never use AI to benefit their site. The two websites I suggest are: https://glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/ and https://nightshade.cs.uchicago.edu/userguide.html Basically, a filter of random colors is overlayed over your art to confuse the ai and still highlight what makes your art yours. It’s just makes it look a little fuzzy.

As of a few days ago I have begun to use this overlay on everywhere that has AI scraping. It should only take about 5 minutes of your time. Of course you don’t have to but I really love art and I really love the talent I get to see every morning whether it be here or other places.

Please take care of yourselves and keep creating!!

Honestly, the fact that receptions of AI Images (I refuse to call it art now) went from "hahaha look at this shitty image that AI made, it will NEVER replace the artists with shit like that" to "Holy SHIT, it might actually replace us!" is horrifying.

That Discord thing admittedly got me up in arms for a couple of minutes too but it turned out to be a false alarm, those AI bots only exist for anyone using the AI editing features (you know, those 4 symbols that appear when you hover over an image). The original information that was being spread around was that 4 invisible bots were auto-scraping everything that was being posted without the user's knowledge, but that didn't actually seem to be the case.
As far as I know, the only time someone's uploaded image will go into one of these AI bots is if someone willingly uses those features, which has a low chance of happening in most artist communities and I'd say about 0% chance of happening in your commission clients' DMs.

Secondly, AI will only "replace" you if you stop creating, and not a second earlier.

you said the bar is set higher but honestly any random scribble made by a person is 10,0000x more valuable now due to AI generated images
